Drop Out Store is incredibly proud to be bringing, and debuting, the re-energised Brooks Originals collection to New Zealand & Australia.
Since 1914, Brooks has been solely in the business of footwear. Starting their roots by making sturdy ballet flats and bathing shoes out of a small Philadelphia factory, to inventing the small rubber toe patch that sits at the front of roller skates to stop you from hitting the curb – Brooks has had their hand in so much of footwear’s history.
For the first 50-odd years of Brooks’ history, they were essentially cemented in specialised sports footwear – from baseball & softball cleats, through to American football cleats and track shoes. So, it’s hard to imagine that the thing that made them such a household name in 2025 didn’t start for Brooks until the 1970’s.
In 1974, Brooks debuted their first runner – the Villanova. But success came in the form of the Vantage, Brooks’ first shoe to hit #1 in Runner’s World. The Vantage was the first shoe in the running industry to use EVA foams, which replaced the slow-rebounding rubber in competitors’ midsoles. Even then President Jimmy Carter ordered a pair. Years continued to pass by, with Brooks cementing themselves as one of the best running shoe brands on the market, and in 1992 they introduced what would be one of the most iconic sneakers to become a lifestyle shoe – the Beast.
The Beast featured some of the most robust technologies in a shoe ever featured, with a Diagonal Rollbar designed to keep your foot locked into position while moving. A few years later, they released one of their most successful shoes to date – the Adrenaline GTS (Go-To Shoe). The Adrenaline GTS took the best of the Beast and added flexibility to the forefoot, smoother transitions from heel-strike to toe-off and flex grooves that offered the right amount of support.
Today, they’re powerhouses in the performance game, with runners of all ability levels being seen wearing a pair of Brooks. At Drop Out Store, we’re proud to be re-introducing to the market some of the most influential sneakers ever made by Brooks – the Adrenaline GTS 4 from 2002 and the Cascadia 1, designed in help with the Legendary Scott Jurek.
